The park

  • 2 Walkways to the Statue - One walkway represents the North, the other the South, and in the center, there is Unity.
  • There will be 3 flags behind the statue as well; 1 of the current American flag, 1 of the Union flag period to the time, and 1 of the Confederate government at the end of the war.
  • There will be 4 benches in the park - Custom bench frames will be made in the North by KBM Industries and the wood for the bench will come from the South. Visitors will sit in unity.
  • There will be 3 Educational Markers that talk about the 3 key points I’ve chosen for my project; History, Communications, and Music
  • 36 Box Wood Bushes – these represent the 36 states that fought in the war

The Statue

  • Statue will feature a young drummer boy . The statue’s message will be “Unity” and will pay tribute to both Northern and Southern soldiers, especially musicians that fought in the war.
  • The statue will be casted from bronze using materials from the North.  Statue will be sculpted by US Veteran Gary Casteel,  sculptor of the Gettysburg Battlefield Longstreet Monument .
  • The pedestal of the monument will be made from granite coming from the South.
  • A plaque will acknowledge all contributors and donors to the project

  • For my Eagle Scout project, I have commissioned the design, construction, and installation of a bronze monument of a Civil War Drummer Boy dedicated to Civil War Era Musicians.
  • A symbolic park called "Unity Park", will surround the monument.
  • There are NO monuments dedicated to Civil War musicians anywhere in the United States.
  • Unity Park will be located in downtown Gettysburg on property located off Baltimore Street.
  • The Park and the Statue were unveiled on July 5, 2015 to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the end of the Civil War and focus on Unity.
